Jimmy Kimmel invited John Legend to help him send off Downton Abbey in style on Monday evening (March 7th). The show aired its final episode on Sunday (March 6th), and Legend took the opportunity to pen lyrics for the show’s notoriously brooding musical opening.

Besides making fun of characters, Legend took things in a racial direction, aptly making fun of the white show. Going full throttle with his voice, Legend sings in an operatic style mirroring the high class subject matter the program. “Everyone we know is very white/ We don’t have one black friend,” which, of course, draws laughs from the studio audience,” he sings in the opening lyrics for the new theme.

Elsewhere, he made fun of the family’s rich lifestyle the family, singing, “Can someone come and comb my hair?/ I have so many hats to wear.”

Given that Legend has won GRAMMYs, a Golden Globe and an Oscar, perhaps he’ll continue his run for EGOT by one day penning original music for a television program. Considering his talent for creating lyrics for Downton Abbey, he certainly has the skill.
